This Writer’s First Step

All dangerous paths, fraught with terror and desperation, begin as simply as their lesser evil counterparts (nice strolls along a beach, let’s say–minus rusty fish hooks and broken bottles): with that first, perilous step.

Ok, so this isn’t exactly the “first step” down my writerly path–more like I’ve come to a rickety-ass bridge with several large, very hungry looking crocodiles (think Lake Placid here folks, and if you haven’t seen that shit–go watch it) lurking in the depths below, just waiting to bite my dainty little leg off.

You see, I’ve been a writer for a long time, basically since I could first hold a pencil and actually string letters together to make these awesome little things called words. I’ve improved since then–I hope–and have decided to take my writing serious, to work toward publication and put it out there in the massive void we refer to as “the world”.

I’ve come to the point (that damn bridge I mentioned) in my path where I can either turn back, take a nap under an innocent looking apple tree and keep my writing to myself, or I can risk crossing the bridge and start turning my writing into a career, start publishing my fiction and start inviting others into my world to enjoy it with me.

Did you just scoff? Not scary, you say? That doesn’t sound terrifying?

You must have never met an introverted little creative type like myself. Any one who’s created anything knows that sharing it with the world, putting it out there to be *gasp* judged–is absolutely terrifying.

So why the hell bother? I’m glad you asked. Writing is my passion. Its that simple. Can’t stop. Won’t stop. Might as well force it on other people.

In all seriousness though, I’m ready. It’s time. I’ve hovered near the edge of that bridge for too long and its time to pick my foot up, place it on that first splintered plank, and move forward with my journey.

The point of this blog is to share said journey with you, so that maybe–just maybe–my own experience can help out another human being.

Or maybe help other human beings connect with other human beings, so that we can ban together to face the inevitable cyborg uprising! (I’m joking of course–zombies will have totally ravaged the world before cyborgs even have a chance to organize, duh).
